As a reult of the severe rain storm on the evening of Friday 6th September, for the first time in living memory, part of the Hall had floodwater entering. This meant that the Minor Hall, the male toilet & corridor, and the main cupboards store room were flooded with around 3 inches of muddy water.
Thankfully, the refurbished main hall, kitchen and ladies' cloakroom were unaffected and remained open to users. The cause of the flood appears to have been the over-topping of the Brockhole Stream which passes by The Woodman pub as well as water surging up through drains and manholes.
Once the floors had been cleaned the laminate was taken up and the exposed floor boards left to dry out. A section of the floor was cut out to enable inspection of the joists and to help with the drying.
Now, in November, we are looking to have the floor boards professionally sanded and varnished, rather than putting down new laminate.
